Children and Antidepressants
Medication helps depressed children , but only those whose symptoms are severe enough to justify treatment with antidepressants , suggests a clinical | Animal. The study is a careful analysis of data from 12 trials published and unpublished trials in which antidepressants have been studied more recently in children aged between 6 and 18 with deep depressions .
There was a big problem with these studies: a placebo (dummy pills) helped almost half of depressed children improve. The antidepressants had a slightly better result, resulting in a substantial improvement for 59% of children compared to 48% for placebo. Does this mean that the drugs do not work very well or is it something else? That’s what Jeffrey A. Bridge, from Nationwide Children \ ‘s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, and colleagues tried to find out.
The researchers analyzed all the data collected in different studies. They found that children enrolled in multicenter clinical trials were much more likely to respond to placebo than other children in the trials. They also found that children in longer trials are less tenderncia to severe depression in children peridos shorter test. This, they say, may mean that antidepressants are most useful for children with at least moderately severe depression.
For children with mild depression , the drug benefits outweigh its risks. “If confirmed, these findings raise doubts about the benefits of antidepressants in treating pediatric patients with depression,” Bridge and colleagues conclude.

Installing and assessing Stairlifts
Whilst some people panic about having the addition of a stairlift in their home, the process itself is quite easy. After a practical staircase assessment and installation, the benefits offered by a stairlift far outweigh any worries or issues you may have regarding choosing one.
The Assessment
This assessment is simply designed to determine whether a stairlift can practically be installed on your staircase. Trained professionals from the likes of Stannah Stairlift rentals will visit your house and determine all of these factors. The aim of this process is to help both you as a customer and the company provide the best staircase for your given situation.
Narrow Staircases
A lot of people make the mistake of assuming that their staircase is often too narrow. However, this is usually not a problem thanks to narrow stairlifts with this specific purpose in mind.
The narrower choice of stairlifts makes use of folding mechanics to shrink the available space needed when not in use. Everything in the chair, from the supports to the arm rests, can fold up to minimise the used space. What’s left is usually very little besides the actual rail, which hugs the side and doesn’t get in the way.
Curved Staircases
Likewise, curved staircases aren’t a problem. As the staircase technology is based on the simple idea of a chair moving up a rail, the shape of the rail can be changed to suit the needs. A curved stair case can be fitted around cornered staircases; right angle corners usually being a common feature in many homes.
Specific Cases
In difficult cases, the rail can be manufactured to specific curves, angles and lengths. In more extreme cases, such as multi story homes or semi-floors that break up the stair case, a combination of separated stairlifts might be required to ensure the best access and mobility for you.
In short, a staircase assessment doesn’t usually determine whether or not you can have a stairlift. Instead, it simply helps find the best possible solution to installing one, helping you along the way.
